Lisa Kerr is the creator of My Cult Life, a blog about fundamentalism and her experience as a reverend for seven years in a discipleship program called Master’s Commission that was founded in Tommy Barnett’s church. After leaving ministry, Lisa became an atheist and rediscovered her love for feminism and activism. She’s known for her bold commentary on the scandals within the Church at large, with an expertise in charismatic Christianity and New Dominionism.
Lisa has studied creative writing under Fulbright Scholars and Wallace Stegner Fellowship winners, and has a minor in Religious Studies. Her writing can been seen in New York magazine and in The Northridge Review. She has worked as a staff reader for Hobart, and she was interviewed by Frank Stasio on the North Carolina Public Radio show “The State of Things”, Philly.com and a forthcoming feature story in a national women’s magazine.
Lisa can also be found contributing at RH Reality Check and Open Salon. Lately, Lisa’s been breaking news on a story about Arizona Representative Jack Harper’s ‘baby killer’ comments and writing about an abusive, coercive residential treatment center called Mercy Ministries. She is also a member of some fancy writing and honors associations, but spends most of her time working at a pharmaceutical company and in her home in Southern California with her 2 cats, Molly and Boo.
